The University of Minnesota today unveiled NXT GEN MED, a unique and innovative partnership between the University and Google Cloud that will combine world-class technology, research and immersive learning approaches for students pursuing health care careers.
This partnership of global leaders will offer a one-of-a-kind health sciences education program through the University’s Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences degree offered in Rochester, Minn., reducing almost two years from the traditional four-year degree. The program will leverage cutting-edge technology and learning tools from Google Cloud that engage students virtually, and will match students with mentors at the Mayo Clinic.

The University of Minnesota s Department of Public Safety is addressing allegations that an officer exhibited bias, racism and misconduct during an interaction with an individual.
The department released dashcam footage of the incident for transparency. To promote public safety and dispel any misunderstandings, UMPD believes that the public should see and hear what actually occurred, the department said in a statement, in part.
The department received a call reporting a robbery at about 1:36 a.m. on Feb. 1. Officers met with the victims who confirmed they were robbed by two suspects armed with guns.

The University of Minnesota prioritizes attracting, retaining and graduating a diverse student body; one that fits within the many ways diversity can be defined. Next Thursday, in its Mission Fulfillment Committee, the University’s Board of Regents will discuss student diversity and academic outcomes in three focus areas: diversity in recruitment and admissions, student success and addressing achievement gaps and supporting diversity and success in the University’s Graduate School.
First-generation student status, socio-economic backgrounds, geographic diversity and race and ethnicity are among the many quantifiable ways that the University measures diversity throughout its five-campus system. In their discussion with the Board, University leaders will share systemwide and campus-by-campus demographic breakdowns and five-year statistical trends. Last September, University of Minnesota President Joan Gabel announced a plan to conduct a comprehensive review of public safety on and around the Twin Cities campus to identify ways in which the values, practices and experiences of the campus community aligned with those of the University of Minnesota Police Department (UMPD). The review was intended to identify areas where the University could make improvements to bring community expectations and UMPD actions closer together.
CL Alexander Consulting, led by Dr. Cedric Alexander, an expert in law enforcement with over 40 years in public safety, was selected to conduct the review.
