Plant genomicist Buell to join UGA as GRA/GSD Eminent Scholar

Robin Buell, University Distinguished Professor at Michigan State University and a renowned plant genomics expert, will join UGA in fall 2021 as its newest Georgia Research Alliance/Georgia Seed Development Eminent Scholar.

GRA Eminent Scholars are acknowledged leaders in areas of science that are strategically important to the state of Georgia and its research universities. Buell, who will be appointed as a professor of crop and soil sciences in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, is the eighth GRA Eminent Scholar recruited to UGA since 2015 and the 20th overall. She will be UGA’s 19th currently serving Eminent Scholar. The endowment for Buell’s position is co-supported by a contribution from Georgia Seed Development.
Abu Dhabi: The Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI), the world’s first graduate-level, research-based artificial intelligence (AI) university, has officially welcomed its first student cohort at a virtual event with students from across the world, who will be beginning their studies in Abu Dhabi later this week.
Dr Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and Chairman of the MBZUAI Board of Trustees, delivered a welcome speech emphasising the critical importance of AI, especially during the pandemic, as well as in transforming industries to achieve greater outcomes. He was joined by Professor Dr Eric Xing, president of MBZUAI, as well as members from the student body, faculty, and staff from the university.
