The University Park Student Fee Board met Friday to hear allocation request presentations from the Council of Commonwealth Student Governments (CCSG), Graduate and Professional Student Association (GSPA), and Office of Student Activities.
Hibah Akbar, the president of CCSG, kicked the Board’s round of hearings off with a presentation of her organization’s request.
CCSG is an organization made up of student representatives from both the Commonwealth Campuses and University Park that advocates on behalf of the Commonwealth. CCSG works toward streamlining the voices of the Commonwealth Campuses.
Akbar outlined CCSG’s request of $4,096 for the 2021-2022 funding cycle. This request is less than years past because the Board is accepting carry-forward requests, allowing offices to bring any unused funds into the 2021-2022 funding cycle.
Jan. 20–27 program to feature discussion with musicians
The Center for the Performing Arts at Penn State will continue to host the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center’s free online concert series “Front Row: National” through the spring 2021 season. The first program, “Bach: The Complete Brandenburg Concertos,” will be available to stream starting Wednesday, Jan. 20.

UNIVERSITY PARK The Center for the Performing Arts at Penn State will continue to host the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center’s free online concert series “Front Row: National” through the spring 2021 season.
The University Park Student Fee Board met Friday morning to hear allocation request presentations from Penn State’s Center for Sexual and Gender Diversity (CSGD), the Gender Equity Center, and the Paul Robeson Cultural Center (PRCC).
Brian Patchcoski, former director of CSGD, kicked off the board’s meeting with a presentation of his organization’s request.
Patchcoski shared that about 42% of the LGBT youth say the community they live in is not accepting of LGBT people. Depression, family issues, stress, and suicidal thoughts are among the top issues facing members of the LGBT community in Pennsylvania.
CSGD offers numerous programs to LGBTQ+ students at Penn State with the goals of fostering community, visibility, and connection. This programming includes an LGBTQ+ welcome reception, Transgender Awareness Month, and LGBTQ+ History Month.
Urban Bush Women co-artistic director to discuss how legacy influences social change
Urban Dance Women Co-artistic Director Samantha Speis will join Michael Mwenso on the Jan. 27 episode of his “Meeting the Moment” livestream series. Speis will discuss the company’s mission to tell the stories of disenfranchised groups, specifically from the perspective of women and African-American communities.

UNIVERSITY PARK Multigenre artist and cultural historian Michael Mwenso will open his spring 2021 “Meeting the Moment” livestream series with a virtual visit from Urban Bush Women Co-artistic Director Samantha Speis. The free online event will start at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 27.
