A little more than a year after Lancaster Airport officials had to send most of their employees home due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the runways in Manheim Township are the busiest they ve been in years.
Through the first three months of this year, the airport saw 20,342 departures and landings, according to data from the Federal Aviation Administration; the most in that period since 2012.
Itâs the latest sign that Lancaster Airportâs efforts to remake itself as a destination for corporate and chartered jet services are paying off after a difficult year for air travel.
In June, officials plan to unveil a new VIP-style lounge area for corporate clients, according to Airport Authority Chairman Jim Cunningham.

A detour will be in place starting next week as work advances on the reconstruction of a Patton Township intersection.
Beginning Wednesday, May 19, Bernel Road will be closed at its intersection with Fox Hill Road, according to PennDOT. The detour, which will be in place until at least June 4, will use Fox Hill Road, South Fillmore Road and Buffalo Run Road/Route 550.
Prior to the detour, paving will take place on Monday and Tuesday. Drivers should expect travel delays during that time, with flagging and alternating traffic patterns in place.
Work on the project began last August and, after shutting down for the winter, resumed in April.

Fifteen rescue dogs from a shelter in South Carolina got a private flight to University Park Airport on Tuesday as they headed to Centre County PAWS and then on to their forever homes.
The flight was made possible thanks to the Pittsburgh-based nonprofit No Dog Left Behind, which works with nonprofit shelters to provide air and ground transport for animals. It was the organization’s first air transport with PAWS.
“Every dog deserves a loving home, and we’re dedicated to giving them one thanks to our amazing partners and the donors who make our missions possible,” NDLB co-founder Jonathan Plesset said.
