President Morton Schapiro to conclude tenure in 2022 After 13 years at Northwestern, University President Morton Schapiro will end his tenure on August 31, 2022, according to a Thursday email. “It has been my great honor to work alongside our illustrious faculty, staff, students, trustees and alumni during my time here,” he said. “You have inspired me with your passion, dedication and resilience, especially during these most challenging times for our campus, our country and the world.” University spokesman Jon Yates told the Daily in February that Schapiro’s contract was scheduled to end in 2022, after it was extended in 2014. Schapiro remains a tenured faculty member, Yates said.

Amy Falls named VP and chief investment officer

Following a national search, Amy Falls has been appointed as Northwestern’s vice president and chief investment officer, University President Morton Schapiro announced in a Friday email. After transitioning into her new role this spring, Falls will become the first female CIO in NU history. As CIO, Falls will oversee NU’s $12.2 billion investment portfolio, making her responsible for nearly a quarter of the University’s annual revenue. According to Northwestern Now, these funds support a “wide range of University operations including undergraduate and graduate financial aid, University institutes and centers, faculty positions and department chairs, research and athletics.” Falls’ predecessor, William H. McLean, stepped down in October 2020 to become the CIO of the University of Richmond.

NUCNC continues to push for abolition of campus police

After several months of continuous pressure on Northwestern administration to abolish University Police and divest from policing and other militarized entities, NUCNC is continuing their work into the new quarter. Since their campaign of more than 30 days of consecutive actions, the group has not held any mass protests or demonstrations, but they continue to pressure the University and practice mutual aid a core tenet of prison-industrial complex abolition.
