Developing the Future of Electron Microscopy with FAST-EM

insights from industryDr. Jacob P. HoogenboomAssociate ProfessorFaculty of Applied Sciences at TU Delft In this interview, Dr. Jacob P. Hoogenboom, from the Faculty of Applied Sciences at TU Delft, talks to AZoM about the development of electron microscopy with FAST-EM, new automated ultra-fast multibeam electron microscope. Could you give a brief introduction to your group and what you are working on? I am an associate professor at Delft University of Technology, and I am leading my own research group. I am also heading a section on microscopy instrumentation and techniques, consisting of five principal investigators like myself. My group is developing novel techniques and novel instruments for microscopy, specifically at the boundary between light and electron microscopy. We try to bridge the limitations of both individual modalities by combining the two in a single system. That offers us new capabilities for imaging that go beyond what is currently possible.

University of Twente professor awarded ERC grant to advance robotic surgery with novel magnetic system

These updates are republished press releases and communications from members of the Science|Business Network University of Twente professor awarded ERC grant to advance robotic surgery with novel magnetic system Prof. Dr. Sarthak Misra of the University of Twente has been awarded an ERC Proof of Concept grant titled – RAMSES (Robust Actuation through Magnetism for Safe Endovascular Surgery). It is Prof. Misra’s fourth ERC grant. RAMSES follows from the results of his ERC Starting grant ROBOTAR. Within RAMSES, the researchers from the Surgical Robotics Laboratory (SRL) will develop a system for magnetically-actuated robotic surgery. Robotic technologies are increasingly more prevalent within the field of minimally invasive surgery (MIS), helping clinicians to treat the patients quickly, precisely, and with minimal complications. Over the years, SRL has developed several robotic technologies targeting an array of procedures within MIS. A prominent research line within SRL

General practitioners approaches to prostate-specific antigen testing in the north-east of the Netherlands

December 22, 2020 There is wide variation in clinical practice for the early detection of prostate cancer, not least because of the ongoing debate about the benefits of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) testing. In this study, we aimed to assess the approaches, attitudes, and knowledge of general practitioners (GPs) regarding PSA testing in primary care in the Netherlands, particularly regarding recommendations for prostate cancer. Questionnaire surveys were sent to 179 GPs in the north-east of the Netherlands, of which 65 (36%) were completed and returned. We also surveyed 23 GPs attending a postgraduate train-the-trainer day (100%). In addition to demographic data and practice characteristics, the 31-item questionnaire covered the attitudes, clinical practice, adherence to PSA screening recommendations, and knowledge concerning the recommendations for prostate cancer early detection. Statistical analysis was limited to the descriptive level.

People having non-O blood groups are more likely to suffer heart attack: Study People having non-O blood groups are more likely to suffer heart attack: Study In Its Latest Invention University Medical Centre Groningen Has Found That The People Having Non-O Blood Group Such As A, B Or AB Are More Likely To Suffer From Heart-attack. News Nation Bureau | Edited By : Nabanita Chakorborty | Updated on: 02 May 2017, 12:20:11 AM New Delhi: In its latest invention University Medical Centre Groningen has found that the people having non-O blood group such as A, B or AB are more likely to suffer from heart-attack. Tessa Kole, one the of the members was quoted saying, We demonstrate that having a non-O blood group is associated with a 9 per cent increased risk of coronary events and a 9 per cent increased risk of cardiovascular events, especially myocardial infarction (heart attack) .
