Man s body recovered from the sea at Salthill, Galway Galway RNLI assisted in the recovery of a man s body at Salthill yesterday evening. The lifeboat was launched after the alarm was raised by a member of the public while out walking at about 5pm. Emergency services recovered the body from the water at Blackrock. The Irish Coastguard, RNLI, Gardai and the Galway Fire Service attended the scene. The body - believed to be that of a male - was removed to University Hospital Galway for post-mortem examination. A man is being treated in hospital this morning after the car he was driving crashed into a bridge before plunging into the water at Turloughmore in Co Galway.

Man taken to hospital following a road traffic collision in Galway Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of a road traffic collision in Galway. The incident occurred along a stretch of the Loughgeorge /Abbeyknockmoy Road (R354) at Lackagh Bridge in Turloughmore at 5am this morning. A car collided with the bridge and entered the water. The male driver was taken to University Hospital Galway for treatment of his injuries which are not believed serious. Power lines were also damaged during the collision. The road was closed for a time while authorities dealt with the crash, but it has since reopened

Paul Walsh, a brother of the deceased, said they have unanswered questions about why his brother’s remains were not identified sooner. The family said they had yet to be told if dental checks were carried out on Denis’s remains. “Garda appealed for information in May 1996 and yet no one in Galway connected the dots,” he said. It’s like someone handed in a purse to gardaí and they waited for someone to come and claim it, that’s how I feel. Look, none of this is going to bring Denis back, but it could have saved us an awful lot of pain.”
