Gardai to carry out technical exam at scene of fatal Furbo collision

Galway Bay FM 17 December 2020 print Galway Bay fm newsroom – The Barna to Spiddal Road in Furbo remains closed this morning to facilitate a Garda technical examination following a fatal collision last evening after which a pedestrian died. Gardaí are investigating the suspected hit and run incident which occurred on the R336 in Furbo shortly after 7.30 last evening. Gardai were called to the scene shortly after 7.30pm and a female pedestrian aged in her 50s was discovered with serious injuries. It’s believed she was struck by a vehicle which failed to remain at the scene. The woman was then taken to University Hospital Galway where she was pronounced dead a short time later.

Gardai were called to the scene on the Barna to Spiddal Road shortly after 7.30pm where a female pedestrian aged in her 50s was discovered with serious injuries. It’s believed she was struck by a vehicle which failed to remain at the scene. The woman was taken to University Hospital Galway where she was pronounced dead a short time later. Anyone with information who was in the area between 6.15pm and 7.15pm is asked to contact Salthill Garda Station on 091 514720.

Gardaí appeal for witnesses in suspected hit-and-run incident

The victim, in her 50s, was found by gardai shortly after 7.30pm with serious injuries. It’s believed she was struck by a vehicle which failed to remain at the scene. The woman was then taken to University Hospital Galway where she was pronounced dead a short time later. A post-mortem exam is set to place at a later date. The road has since been closed pending a technical examination by Forensic Collision Investigators this morning. Gardaí in Salthill are appealing to any road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam, who were travelling in the Furbo area between 7pm and 7.30pm to make this footage available.

That’s according to the INMO trolley watch figures. It has been an extremely busy week at the Emergency Dept of the Castlebar hospital with trolley numbers in excess of twenty each day, rising to 36 on Tuesday last. Today’s figures are the third highest nationally. Across the country there are 220 patients waiting on trolleys. There are 17 patients on trolleys waiting for admission to Sligo University Hospital today and 15 patients on trolleys today at University Hospital Galway.
