Photo: BCP Council PLANS to transform land on the edge of Bournemouth into a medical research centre have moved forward after being backed by councillors. At their meeting members of BCP Council’s cabinet gave the green light for part of the Wessex Fields site to be sold to University Hospitals Dorset. Trust chief executive Debbie Fleming said the development of a research and education facility behind Royal Bournemouth Hospital would be a “real boost”. The council ran a consultation on the future of the land at the beginning of the year to gauge public opinion on options for its use.

A PATIENT who tested positive for coronavirus in a Dorset hospital has died. According to data released by NHS England, the death was recorded by University Hospitals Dorset on Tuesday, December 15. A total of 303 patients with coronavirus have died in the county’s hospitals since the start of the pandemic. Across the county, University Hospitals Dorset has recorded 69 deaths, Poole Hospital has recorded 107 and Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospitals 68. Elsewhere, Dorset County Hospital and Dorset Healthcare University NHS Foundation Trust have confirmed 27 and 32 respectively.

Date of death ranges from August 4 to December 15, 2020, with the majority occurring on or after December 13.
Two coronavirus patients die in Dorset hospital TWO new coronavirus deaths have been recorded in Dorset, according to latest official figures. Two patients at the newly-formed University Hospitals Dorset Trust in the latest 24-hour period, the latest official figures show. NHS England figures show 243 people had died in hospital at University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust as of 5pm on Tuesday, December 15. That was an increase of two compared to Monday, December 14 when there were 241. The death was reported at the new University Hospitals Dorset Trust, which was formed by a merger of the former Poole Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, and The Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust on October 1.
