Record numbers of people are being admitted to hospital in Bristol with coronavirus, as cases surge again in the city.

A father of four, Dr Obaro moved to the UK in 1999 from Nigeria and Waltham Forest Clinical Commissioning Group said he will be “sadly missed”. – Bridget Palmer, nurse Bridget Palmer, a staff nurse at Clitheroe Community Hospital, died on December 29 after contracting coronavirus, a spokesman for East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust (ELHT) said.

A further 720 people have been diagnosed with coronavirus across the Bristol region over the past 24 hours.
Ten more people also died after contracting the virus across Bristol and its neighbouring areas.
Researchers monitoring the new variant at the Covid-19 Genomics UK Consortium (COG-UK) found it has spread from 507 rows to 515 over the past five days in our city.
Weston Hospital closed to new patients after a surge in coronavirus infections.

Weston General Hospital is under ‘significant pressure’ due to a rising number of coronavirus cases in North Somerset.
The influx in cases has meant patients without Covid-19 are being transferred to other hospitals to ease pressure on the hospital and protect staff and patients.
But the health trust, which runs Weston General Hospital, has stressed it is not a ‘Covid-only’ hospital and is open as normal.
Dr William Oldfield, medical director at University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust said: “Weston General Hospital continues to be under significant pressure, but we have taken appropriate action to maintain the safety of our patients and staff, and are working with our partners across health and social care to help to ease the pressure on the hospital.
