Three Hefajat-e-Islam leaders were arrested in connection the cases filed over violence in 2013 and March this year, and four more, including three top Hefajat leaders, were placed on remand yesterday.
The Detective Branch of police yesterday arrested Hefajat s Assistant Secretary General and Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish Nayeb-e-Amir Khurshid Alam Kasemi from his house in the capital s Mohammadpur yesterday afternoon, said Mahbub Alam, joint commissioner (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
Khelafat Majlish s Joint Secretary Mufti Sharafat Hossain was held from Mirpur area around 5:00pm. He was involved in the Hefajat s violence in 2013 and March this year, Mashiur Rahman, deputy commissioner (DB-Gulshan) of DMP, told The Daily Star.

Former Ducsu VP Nurul Haque Nur has been sued in another case for hurting religious sentiments of Awami League activists and supporters and defaming the party with his derogatory comments.
One Elias Hossain filed the case with Paltan Police Station last night under the Digital Security Act for Nur s comments during a Facebook live session on April 14, Abu Bakar Siddique, officer-in-charge of the police Station, told The Daily Star.
Police sources said the complainant is a member of Awami League.

A Dhaka court today placed two top leaders of Hefajat-e-Islam on a seven-day remand each in a case filed with Paltan Police Station over the 2013 mayhem in Dhaka.
The two leaders are: Dhaka City unit President Maulana Zunayed Al Habib and Assistant Secretary General Maulana Jalaluddin Ahmed.
Maulana Zunayed is also the joint secretary general of Hefajat, a Qawmi madrasa-based Islamist organisation.
Metropolitan Magistrate Md Shahinur Rahman passed the order after Md Kamrul Hassan Talukder, an inspector of Detective Branch of Police and also the investigation officer of the case, produced them before the court with a 10-day remand prayer.

Vice-president of Hefajat-e-Islam s Dhaka city unit Maulana Jubair Ahmed was placed on a five-day remand today in a case filed with Paltan Police Station over the 2013 mayhem in Dhaka.
Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Jashim passed the order after Md Kamrul Islam Talukder, an inspector of the Detective Branch of police, and also the investigation officer of the case, produced him with a 10-day remand prayer in the case.
In today s remand prayer, the IO said Maulana Jubair and other accused were directly involved with the incident on May 5 of 2013 in the city s Paltan area. Moreover, he refused to disclose the names of others who were responsible for the incidents and that is why he needs to be remanded to gather information about whereabouts of other accused, the IO added.
