After 25 years, an international flight from Monterrey, Mexico landed Thursday at the Valley International Airport in Harlingen.
Marlon Domínguez was among the passengers who landed, ready to visit family members and to get a hold of something not readily available for people his age in Mexico.
“I’m looking to get a COVID-19 vaccine,” Domínguez said in Spanish.
The owner of one local tour company is ready to transport those tourists around the Valley.

While border crossings on land are still closed to tourists with visas, Mexican airliners have been providing new flight service into the Valley.
At Valley International Airport in Harlingen and at the McAllen International Airport, Mexican airliners Viva Aerobús and Aeromar have increased their flights in the last two months.
An economist says this could be positive for the region, and not just for tourists coming from Mexico.

Valley International Airport in Harlingen was awarded millions of dollars in federal grants to combat the spread of coronavirus at the airport and provide economic relief, Sen. John Cornyn announced Monday.
The $2,833,427 in funding is through the Coronavirus Relief and Response Supplemental Appropriations (CRRSA) Act of 2020.
Cornyn voted in favor of the act last December.
“Quality transportation services are vital for boosting local economic growth, and now, more than ever, we must ensure airports have the support they need to get Texans from point A to point B,” Cornyn said in a statement. “I will continue doing everything I can to bolster our response to these unprecedented hardships, and I look forward to seeing the impact this funding
