Harrison includes hazardous, electronic waste collection in new garbage contract [The Valley News-Dispatch, Tarentum, Pa.] Jan. 9 Harrison will no longer host events twice a year so residents can dispose of electronic and hazardous waste because residents will now be able to get rid of them from their homes year-round, Commissioner William Heasley said. Commissioners have approved adding household collection of hazardous waste as part of a new three-year garbage contract with Waste Management. The collection includes CRT televisions, monitors and other electronics that residents have had to pay a per-pound fee to dispose of at the collection events held at the township building.

The Salvation Army’s famous red kettles are a lot lighter than usual this year, and there are fewer of them to be found around Westmoreland County. “As of right now, we’re not even at half our goal, and we have six kettle days left,” said Lt. Donna Hannan, assistant corps officer for the Greensburg Salvation Army. The organization had raised $29,000 of its $80,000 goal as of Friday.
