LANSING MI (WKZO AM/FM) â Governor Whitmerâs veto of a 155 million dollar spending plan to fund reading scholarships is meeting with expected Republican backlash.
The proposal would have given Grand Valley State University the money to provide $1000 to individual students K-5 who are not proficient in reading.
GOP state lawmakers criticized Whitmer, saying that it maintains the so-called âeducational status quoâ, instead of funneling the money where it is needed.
Democrats supported the veto, stating that giving GVSU 155 million dollars without any kind of state oversight was irresponsible.
