No 20 Volleyball Advances to GLIAC Semifinals

ABC 10/CW5 Courtesy: Northern Michigan University Athletics Courtesy: NMU UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – No. 20 Northern Michigan University volleyball is moving on in the 2021 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament after defeating Davenport University 3-1 in the quarterfinal round on Friday evening at Saginaw Valley State University. The Wildcats led for much of the opening frame and took the lead for good after breaking a 7-7 tie. A Jacqueline Smith kill, assisted by Lauren Van Remortel, led to the tie and kicked off a six-point run for NMU. Smith had three kills in the run while Hailey Wickstrom had two. The run was capped off by a block from Wickstrom and Evynn Layshock.

Mass shooting in Allendale Twp

By Peg McNichol Apr 10, 2021 8:13 AM HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) A mass shooting at the Enclave Apartments in Allendale Township has injured four people, one critically, according to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Capt Mark Bennett. Police are looking for a suspect, described as male, Hispanic, 6 feet tall, weighing about 225 pounds, last seen wearing a white shirt, blue jeans, and a baseball cap. None of the victims are Grand Valley State University students, he said, but GVSU police assisted at the scene, and GVSU issued a campus-safety alert because the incident happened close to campus. Deputies called to the scene just after midnight on Saturday, April 10, 2021, near apartments on the 4900 block of Becker Drive, found three victims, all of whom were rushed by Life EMS ambulance to a Grand Rapids hospital, Bennett said in an emailed statement.
