March 11, 2021 A presentation exploring the pandemic and its effects on the economy will be held next month as part of a partnership between the South Haven Speaker Series and the Economic Club of Southwestern Michigan. South Haven Speaker Series President Mark Odland tells WSJM News the keynote speaker will be Grand Valley State University economist Dr. Paul Isely. “Paul is going to talk about the economy today,” Odland said. “What’s going on in this pandemic economy? How is it affecting the state of Michigan and southwest Michigan?” After that will be a panel featuring Cornerstone Alliance President Rob Cleveland and former Battle Creek Unlimited President Jim Hettinger.

Saginaw Valley State University joining other MI schools promising free tuition to eligible students

A growing number of Michigan s public universities are offering free tuition programs for lower-income undergraduates. Saginaw Valley State University announced on Tuesday that it is joining the group. SVSU President Donald Bachand said in a written statement, We have maintained the lowest tuition in the state for many years, but the sticker price still causes many families to think an SVSU degree is out of reach. SVSU s program, known as the SVSU Cardinal Commitment,  guarantees four years of free tuition to entering, full-time Michigan undergraduates, starting with the 2021 fall semester, whose family s adjusted gross income and specified total assets are $50,000 or less.
