A new award has been created in memory of Tim Brennan, who led the Pioneer Valley Planning Commission for decades.
The “Tim Brennan Exemplar Award” will go to a Pioneer Valley organization that serves the community while adapting to changing economic and cultural landscapes.
Brennan was the executive director of the regional planning agency from 1980 until his retirement in 2019. He died in March 2020.
Unable to publicly laud his accomplishments at the time of his death because of COVID-19, his friends and colleagues decided to create the award in his honor.
The award is co-sponsored by the Pioneer Valley Planning Commission and the Economic Development Council of Western Massachusetts.

For the last six months, a committee in Longmeadow, Massachusetts has been researching issues of race in the predominately white Springfield suburb.
A final report, which includes data, multiple personal stories about racism faced by town residents, and eight recommendations, was presented to the Longmeadow Select Board Monday night.
