Shannon Marvel / Post Independent A steady stream of youngsters flowed into Valley View Hospital in Glenwood Springs on Wednesday to receive their first dose of the Pfizer vaccine. Siblings Lucas and Rhea Stotts were among those who received their first dose Wednesday, May 19 accompanied by their mother, Jennifer Stotts. Jennifer said she told her children that it’s important to get the vaccination so the family can take trips, participate in activities and visit friends and family again.

One person remains hospitalized after Friday cement truck, pickup crash

Firefighters and first responders work to safely extricate drivers and passengers from the wreckage that occured on Interstate 70 just east of New Castle on May 21. A 31-year-old New Castle woman remains hospitalized after being critically injured in a crash on Interstate 70 west of Glenwood Springs on Friday morning. According to the Colorado State Patrol, Michel Garcia-Roman was driving a GMC pickup east between New Castle and Canyon Creek at about 9 a.m. Friday when a fully loaded westbound cement mixer truck went out of control, crossed the median, overturned and collided with the pickup. The force of the crash sent both vehicles over the guardrail and part way down the Colorado River bank, with the pickup pinned beneath the cement truck.
