Today is the two-week anniversary of the largest mass shooting in Bay Area history, when a disgruntled Valley Transit Authority employee killed nine coworkers at the rail yard in San Jose, before killing himself.
In the wake of the tragedy, Mayor Sam Liccardo is proposing stricter gun measures.
He also wants to make firearm retailers video record all of their sales. Under the mayor s ten-point plan, gun owners in San Jose would have to buy insurance for their weapons, like they would a car, and pay a fee to cover taxpayer costs related to gun violence. Liccardo will present his plan to the city council tomorrow, and a vote could be taken at a later date. He wants the city to adopt the ordinance by September.
SAN JOSE – Sikh-American Taptejdeep Singh, who was among the nine people killed in the latest horrific mass shooting incident in the US, has been hailed as a hero who lived by the values of service and protection of others, his family members said, as they tried to find comfort hearing how he spent his final moments helping his colleagues to safety.
Samuel Cassidy, 57, a maintenance worker of the Valley Transportation Authority (VTA), San Jose, on Wednesday gunned down nine of his co-workers in one of the deadliest shootings in California state in recent years.
Singh, 36, who was a light rail operator at the VTA for nine years, was the first victim to be publicly identified by his family after the incident.
