Governor Andrew Cuomo sketched out more details Wednesday for how New Yorkers will get the coronavirus vaccine. At his daily briefing, Cuomo said the vaccine will be free to all, with health insurers absorbing the costs.
He said the state has assigned a hospital to be the vaccination hub coordinator for each region. In the North Country, that’s Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital, or CVPH, in Plattsburgh. These hub coordinators will all coordinate with the local stakeholders, Cuomo said. They will work with the city government. They will work with the county government. They’ll work with community-based organizations to outreach to communities that are hard to reach. But they’ll come up with a plan that meets the needs of that region. You’re dealing with the North Country, that’s different than the needs of New York City.

ALBANY â Local hospitals will develop and submit plans to the state Health Department at the start of 2021, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Wednesday, and established regional hubs in each part of New York for a smooth, effective rollout of the COVID-19 vaccine.
About 4,000 coronavirus vaccines have been administered to high-risk health workers since the first shipment of Manhattan drugmaker Pfizerâs COVID-19 vaccine arrived in the state early Monday.
Essential workers and priority, or high-risk members of the public, will receive the vaccine next. The state expects to begin the next phase of inoculations in late January.
âWe have to get the vaccination out as soon as we can â that will start to bring the COVID rate down,â Cuomo said during a coronavirus briefing in the state Capitol. âThat will start to bring the COVID rate down, but itâs just a question of logistics and making it happen.â
WATERTOWN â North country hospitals saw a small increase in average hospital occupancy last week as concerns mount over a possible influx of COVID-19 patients overwhelming the regionâs medical infrastructure.
The seven-day average combined inpatient occupancy rate for north country hospitals rose from 55.5% to 59.1% between the weeks beginning Nov. 27 and Dec. 4, according to data from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. This represents an increase of 3.6 percentage points over that period.
But if the hospitalization increase were to continue at its current pace for three weeks, it would still be well below the stateâs red zone threshold.
ALBANY â The state has established regional âhubsâ in each part of New York for a smooth, effective rollout of the COVID-19 vaccine, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Wednesday, and local hospitals will lead the charge.
Local hospitals will pilot regional vaccination hubs to oversee distribution of the COVID-19 immunization to New Yorkers in order to inoculate essential workers and vulnerable residents next month.
State-designated regional vaccine coordinators in each of the stateâs 10 regions will develop a plan with local health departments and community officials to establish a plan specific to an areaâs needs. The plans will be submitted to the state Department of Health at the start of next year to begin the second phase of the vaccine distribution process.
