The University of Minnesota Duluth s former College of Liberal Arts now has a new name.
The change to the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences formally took effect on July 1. The change was the result of a process that began after the School of Fine Arts and the College of Liberal Arts were merged one year ago.
According to a news release from UMD, the name was chosen to reflect and identify the different broad areas in which the college provides courses and engages in research of nearly 40 majors in 10 departments.
Four potential names were discussed in meetings beginning last October. The process of choosing a new name included a poll of faculty and staff, a discussion at a college assembly, and approval by the Board of Regents.
