COVINGTON, Ga. Newton County Schools will receive almost $43 million in federal stimulus money from Georgia’s share of American Rescue Plan funding.
The funding to Newton County totaling $42,980,285 was announced recently by the Georgia Department of Education.
It is among $3.8 billion $3,824,434,000 that Georgia public schools will receive in federal stimulus funds, a news release stated.
The State Board of Education on March 25 approved State School Superintendent Richard Woods recommendation to begin allocating the funds to individual school districts.

When the state delivers on Gov. Brian Kemp’s promise to provide a one-time $1,000 bonus to every K-12 public teacher and school-level staff member, the Habersham County Board of Education will take it a step further.
In Habersham County, every employee in the school system will receive a one-time $1,000 bonus – not just those in school-level positions, said School Superintendent Matthew Cooper.
“Here’s what our board of education has said: In Habersham County, it should go to everybody,” Cooper said. “I want to publicly thank this board of education for taking that stance. That’s the fair thing to do is that every single employee in this school system should get it. The reality is our board is going to have to locally support some of this.”
Georgia s school superintendents discuss COVID-19 vaccine rollout
Several Georgia school superintendents came together on Thursday to discuss the COVID-19 vaccine rollout across the districts.
ATLANTA - State leaders and 13 school superintendents from across Georgia met virtually to talk about the vaccine rollout for teachers on Thursday.
Governor Brian Kemp announced last month, teachers will be eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine starting March 8. Districts have since been working with health officials to put together a rollout plan.
However, the plan to vaccinate teachers will likely look different for each district. Some districts are working with local health departments while others are holding vaccine clinics on school campuses.
The additional vaccine sites add to four other locations that opened last month in metro Atlanta, Macon, Albany and Habersham County. The new sites will open in Savannah, Columbus, Waycross and Bartow and Washington counties.
