New York, NY (77WABC)-New York City’s Department of Education has announced that students will undergo all remote learning on bad weather days, virtually eliminating snow days from the NYC Public School Calendar.
Additional changes, to the public school calendar, are being blasted by public officials including City Council Members Joe Borelli (R), Steve Matteo (R), and Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis (NY-11). The DOE has announced that the Columbus Day Holiday is changed to Indigenous People’s Day.
NYC Mayor Bill DeBlasio responded to criticism about the change during his morning briefing. He said he has spoken with NYC Schools Chancellor Meisha Ross Porter saying the process in making the change “was not handled right.”
