Chickasaw Nation Governor Bill Anoatubby We ve been operating, since I came to work for the Nation, as though we have boundaries, Chickasaw Nation Governor Bill Anoatubby said while talking about the recent Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals decision that affirmed what he already knew: the Chickasaw Nation s reservation boundaries were never disestablished.
Anoatubby has been the leader of the Chickasaw Nation since 1987 and is often referred to as one of the most powerful people in Indian Country.
The leader of the Tribal Nation remembers a time when their operating budget was only a little more than $1 million, and most of that money came from the federal government. Today, the Chickasaw Nation boasts more than $500 million in annual revenue with multiple businesses and a state of the art medical facility.

At the annual General Council meeting in October 2020, Quapaw citizens could be heard gasping in disbelief as figures from a forensic audit were released and presented to the crowd of nearly 100.
The Quapaw Nation celebrated success, and in new business announced the Downstream Development Authority (DDA), was being dissolved. Former Tribal Chairman John Berrey and several others in his administration were being publicly accused of misspending more than $34 million. Berrey alone is alleged to have received $17 million in bonuses.
On Friday, April 16, 2021, Berrey was charged in Quapaw Nation Tribal Court with attempted embezzlement, conspiracy, abuse of office and improper gifts to tribal officials or employees.
MISSION â On a frigid February morning, the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation held its twice-monthly food distribution. With sheets of snow blanketing the ground from a recent snowstorm, members of the reservation worked hand-in-hand with distribution drivers from The Wave Foundation, a Portland nonprofit sustainability coalition that helps provide communities like the reservation with healthy and sustainable food options during the pandemic.
Motown and rock ânâ roll oldies emanated from a StreetHopper Bluetooth speaker with an 8-inch woofer. Wave distribution workers, community members and high schoolers from the reservation clad in jackets, gloves, hats and scarves danced through various jobs, trying to stay warm amid brisk winds.
