JAMMU, July 24: In a major crackdown on arms license racket in Jammu and Kashmir, the Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI) today conducted raids at 40 locations in six districts of the Union Territory besides New Delhi involving two IAS officers, six Jammu and Kashmir Administrative Services (JKAS) officers and number of gun houses/dealers in issuance of 2.78 lakh arms licenses, some of them to non residents on forged documents during 2012-16.

SRINAGAR/NEW DELHI: The CBI on Saturday conducted searches at 40 locations in Jammu and Kashmir, and in the national capital in connection with cases related to alleged irregularities in the issuance of over 2.78 lakh arms licences to non-residents on forged documents during 2012-16, officials said.
The search operation was spread across Jammu, Srinagar, Udhampur, Rajouri, Anantnag, Baramulla and Delhi at the official and residential premises of public servants, including IAS officers, around 20 gun houses among others in an ongoing investigation of a case related to arms licence racket, a CBI spokesperson said in a statement.
The CBI previously said it has unearthed a deep-rooted conspiracy in this matter

The CBI raided 40 locations across Jammu and Kashmir and Delhi this morning, including the residence of senior J&K IAS officer Shahid Iqbal Choudhary in Srinagar, in connection with the illegal sale of gun licenses.
In J&K the raids took place in Srinagar, Udhampur, Rajouri, Anantnag and Baramulla.
Mr Choudhury is currently Secretary (Tribal Affairs) and CEO Mission Youth, J&K. He previously served as the Deputy Commissioner of Kathua, Reasi, Rajouriand Udhampur districts, during which time he allegedly issued thousands of licenses - under fake names - to people in other states and UTs.

Srinagar: Launching a swift action, multiple teams of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Saturday carried out searches at 40 locations, including the residential premises of 2 IAS officers, in Jammu and Kashmir and Delhi in connection with its probe into an alleged illegal arms licence case.
A CBI spokesperson in Delhi said that the agency is conducting searches at around 40 locations in Jammu, Srinagar, Udhampur, Rajouri, Anantnag, Baramulla and Delhi, including the official and residential premises of certain then public servants (including IAS, KAS officers, then DM, then ADM etc).
The official said that it is also carrying out searches at around 20 gun houses or dealers as part of its ongoing investigation into a case related to an arms licence racket.
