Commissioners court sets April 14 for town hall meeting on solar tax abatement

Brownwood Bulletin Brown County Commissioners Court members agreed Monday to have a town hall meeting on April 14 to to hear comments on a possible tax abatement for the proposed IP Radian solar project near Brookesmith. The meeting will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Adams Street Community Center. Commissioner Gary Worley suggested that speakers on both sides of the issue be allotted a total of 50 minutes per side. Worley also said the commissioners court should not respond to speakers or become involved in the discussion. A representative of the Allison, Bass and McGee law firm, which the commissioners court hired earlier to assist the court in the tax abatement debate, will be present to answer questions, Worley said.

Co Commissioners Schedule Busy Monday Meeting

Brown County Commissioners will meet Monday, April 5, at 9:00 am in the Commissioner’s Court on the first floor of the Brown County Courthouse.  Among several items on the agenda, Commissioners will consider setting a date for a special Brown County Commissioners Court meeting outside of regular business hours for discussion only regarding possible tax abatement with IP Radian.  The full agenda is below. 1. Brownwood justices of the peace Holder, Cavanaugh set to retire

Brownwood Bulletin Brown County Commissioners Court members will consider accepting retirement letters of two justices of the peace, and will also consider accepting applications for appointments to fill the seats, when they meet at 9 a.m. Monday. The retiring justices of the peace are Mike Holder of Precinct 2, who took office in 2015, and Jim Cavanaugh of Precinct 4, who took office in 2007. The commissioners court will consider appointing a committee to review applicants and make recommendations to the court.
