Commissioners to certify levy | News, Sports, Jobs

fbusch@nujournal.com BROWN COUNTY Commissioners will certify the 2021 Brown County Budget and Levy on Tuesday, Dec. 15. The proposed $14,141,462 levy is 2.79% ($384,506) above the certified 2020 levy. The overall county budget would increase 7.26% in 2021, but total appropriations are 5.1% less than the 2020 budget. There is a $100,000 contingency line item at this time. With the uncertainty in the 2021 legislative session, the assurance of aid Brown County receives from the State is questionable. Commissioners will also consider: • The sheriff’s office purchasing 15 Axon X26P tasers for $19,793 to replace existing tasers to be taken out of service, deemed surplus, and declared excess property for disposal/sale.

District 84 OKs 2020 payable 2021 levy | News, Sports, Jobs

fbusch@nujournal.com SLEEPY EYE The District 84 Board of Education unanimously approved its 2020 payable 2021 tax levy after a truth in taxation hearing Wednesday. Finance Director Amanda Boomgarten said ADM (average daily membership) was the main reason for a $23,319 (2.03%) tax levy reduction. The board unanimously approved a resolution to expect equity in Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) membership fees by school size and classification. Superintendent John Cselovszki said the school district got an extra $5,000 participant fee from the MSHSL. “Basically, they’re asking schools to bail out the high school league and that’s now how I think it should be. That’s a big burden on a small school,” Cselovszki said. “Most schools around here have approved similar resolutions.”
