KUALA LUMPUR – The two-week period, beginning today, where Malaysians are to jointly limit movement or ‘self lockdown’, is crucial as it will determine where the country stands in the statistics in the fight against the relentless COVID-19 pandemic.
It follows the daily cases, which continued to record more than 6,000 cases since May 19, with the highest number of cases at 6,976 reported on Sunday.

Concern over the virus has heightened as the total number of victims who have succumbed to the COVID-19 virus now exceeds 2,300, with the highest number of deaths recorded yesterday (May 24) at 61.

THE army’s field hospital in Kepala Batas, Penang, will be fully operational by tomorrow, said Armed Forces Health Services division director-general Lt-Jen Datuk Dr Zulkeffeli Mat Jusoh.
He said the modular 24-bed field hospital’s intensive care unit (ICU) which was set up near Kepala Batas Hospital will have to complete its dry run first before being vetted by the Fire and Rescue Department for approval.
“We must first test the effectiveness of the field hospital, ” said Lt-Jen Dr Zulkeffeli in a press conference at the field hospital yesterday.
PETALING JAYA: The Health Ministry s recommendation to wear two masks instead of one has been met with support from Malaysians online, with some calling for it to be a normal practice.
One such person is Twitter user @Draesthethics1, who said that such move needs to be encouraged worldwide with those who are vaccinated and unvaccinated. It must become a standard for now and until we knock this pandemic back into the Stone Age, he said in a tweet on Monday (May 24).
Similarly @maling345678 said that he saw Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah wearing two masks and a face shield on television.
