KUCHING, July 27 There has been no report of any demonstration being staged at hospitals in Sarawak as part of the ‘Hartal Doktor Kontrak’ movement. In stating this, Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Aidi Ismail said as at yesterday afternoon, no walkout involving doctors or other medical personnel had been reported. “However, the police will continue to monitor the situation from time to time, not only in Kuching but throughout the state as well,” he said via WhatsApp message yesterday.

New morbid milestone reached

PETALING JAYA: The number Covid-19 fatalities hit yet another grim record with 207 deaths, the highest in a day so far. This brings the country’s total fatalities from the pandemic to 8,201, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a statement. He added that Selangor recorded the highest death toll with 57, followed by Kuala Lumpur with 52 and Johor with 24. Other fatalities were also recorded in Kedah (19), Melaka (18), Negri Sembilan (14), Pahang (seven), Sabah (six), Perak (five), Penang (three) and Terengganu (two).Of the deaths, 160 were linked to comorbidities while 14 others were classified as “brought in dead” cases. Dr Noor Hisham also said there were 14,516 new infections, bringing the total accumulated cases to 1,027,954 cases.
