Covid-19: 2,433 new cases, nine deaths recorded today

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 2,433 new Covid-19 cases were recorded in the country today with nine more casualties, while five new clusters were detected, according to Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah. With 1,277 more recoveries, the cumulative number of those who had been cured of Covid-19 in Malaysia is 108,109, or 79.5 per cent of the total number of cases. Dr Noor Hisham said 135,992 positive cases had been detected in the country to date, while 27,332 cases were still active. “Of the total number of new cases reported today, seven are imported from abroad, while 2,426 are local transmissions. “Of the local transmissions, 1,784 cases involve Malaysian citizens, and 642 cases are of non-citizens,“ he said in a statement today.

Covid-19: Five new clusters detected as of noon Saturday (Jan 8), says Dr Noor Hisham

The Health director-general said the five new clusters are located in Johor, Penang, Sarawak, Melaka and Terengganu. The Mikro cluster, said Dr Noor Hisham, was a workplace cluster involving the Johor Baru, Kulai, Pontian and Kota Tinggi cluster in Johor, where 97 individuals were found to be positive after 588 were screened. In Penang, Dr Noor Hisham said the Symphony Magazine cluster involved the Timur Laut and Seberang Perai districts, where 44 positive cases were detected after 116 individuals were screened. At the same time, Dr Noor Hisham said the Kesidang Technology cluster is a workplace cluster involving the Melaka Tengah district in Melaka, where 18 positive cases were detected after 136 individuals were screened.

KUALA LUMPUR: Conditional registration for the Covid-19 vaccine produced by Pfizer company, Comirnaty Concentrate for Dispersion, has been approved for use in Malaysia, said Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah. (pix) Dr Noor Hisham, through his official Twitter and Facebook posts, said the matter was approved by the 352nd Malaysia Drug Control Authority (PBKD) Meeting which convened today. “Even so, the company still needs to submit some important data within the allotted time before it is allowed to be used,“ he said. Earlier, Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Khairy Jamaluddin through his official Twitter expressed his congratulations to the National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency (NPRA) on the decision for conditional registration for the Covid-19 vaccine from Pfizer.
