1MDB-Tanore trial: Jho Low may have been the mastermind, but the ultimate boss was Najib, says ex-CEO

KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 6): Although fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho (Jho Low) was the alleged mastermind behind the transfer of millions of ringgit out of 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB), at the end of the day it was former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak who was the ultimate boss, said former 1MDB CEO Mohd Hazem Abdul Rahman. Hazem, testifying as a prosecution witness in Najib’s 1MDB-Tanore corruption trial, said this when senior defence counsel Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah asked him who was the 1MDB “boss”. Shafee queried Hazem whether he had raised concerns to Najib during his tenure as CEO from 2013 to 2015 when media reports began to surface about the sovereign wealth fund being in financial trouble.

Najib s lawyers and prosecution still checking SRC notes of proceedings

PUTRAJAYA (Dec 28): The defence and prosecution in Datuk Seri Najib Razak s SRC International Sdn Bhd case are making sure that the High Court s notes of proceedings, which found the former premier guilty of all seven counts of criminal breach of trust (CBT), abuse of power and money-laundering, are in order. Federal Court to hear Shafee s bid to expunge 1MDB-linked money laundering, tax evasion affidavit on Jan 21

PUTRAJAYA (Dec 24): The Federal Court reconfirmed today that it will hear on Jan 21, 2021 lawyer Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah’s s application to expunge an affidavit related to the money laundering and tax evasion charges against him involving RM9.5 million, which is alleged to have come from 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB). The date was confirmed again following case management today before Federal Court senior assistant registrar Intan Syafinaz Ros Lin. Shafee s lawyer Sarah Abishegam also confirmed the apex court s hearing date when contacted by theedgemarkets.com. “This would be a physical hearing,” Sarah said. It was reported that the affidavit, filed by Siti Rahayu Mohd Mumazani, a former special officer to the attorney-general (AG), is linked to PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s civil action against the government.

A five-member panel of the Federal Court led by Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak Datuk Abang Iskandar Abang Hashim allowed Khairy’s appeal against the appellate court’s decision in striking out his appeal in the lawsuit filed against him by  Anwar.

Federal Court says Khairy can challenge High Court ruling in defamation suit brought by Anwar

PUTRAJAYA: The Federal Court has ruled in a unanimous decision that Khairy Jamaluddin can challenge a High Court decision that ruled he had defamed Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in a speech at a rally 12 years ago. We order this case to be remitted to the Court of Appeal for it to be heard on its merits, said Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak Justice Abang Iskandar Abang Hashim, who chaired a five-man bench on Tuesday (Dec 15). The apex court also fixed case management via e-review for Wednesday (Dec 16). In the hearing that was held in open court with the lawyers appearing via Zoom, Khairy s lawyer Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah told the court that the amount of preparation for the case at the Federal Court level was extensive and asked for RM100,000 in costs.
