WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - Old Dominion Freight Line, Inc. (ODFL) revealed earnings for its first quarter that climbed from the same period last year.
The company s earnings totaled $199.36 million, or $1.70 per share. This compares with $133.18 million, or $1.11 per share, in last year s first quarter.
Analysts had expected the company to earn $1.58 per share, according to figures compiled by Thomson Reuters. Analysts estimates typically exclude special items.
The company s revenue for the quarter rose 14.1% to $1.13 billion from $0.99 billion last year.

Old Dominion: Q1 Earnings Snapshot

THOMASVILLE, N.C. (AP) Old Dominion Freight Line Inc. (ODFL) on Thursday reported first-quarter profit of $199.4 million.
On a per-share basis, the Thomasville, North Carolina-based company said it had net income of $1.70.
The results surpassed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of six analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $1.58 per share.
The trucking company posted revenue of $1.13 billion in the period, also beating Street forecasts. Three analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $1.11 billion.
Old Dominion shares have increased 26% since the beginning of the year. The stock has increased 99% in the last 12 months.
