For yet another time, a Mennonite church in Wheatley was found to be violating COVID-19 rules on indoor gatherings.
Chatham-Kent police said officers responded to a complaint over the weekend and visited the Old Colony Mennonite Church on Wheatley Road where they discovered an illegal gathering.

A member of the church described as a 46-year-old Tilbury man is facing a charge under the Reopening Ontario Act. He’s been scheduled for a court date in July.

Yet another charge under the Reopening Ontario Act has been laid against a member of the Old Colony Mennonite Church in Wheatley.
Chatham-Kent police said they continue to receive and investigate complaints about gatherings at churches across the municipality.

On Sunday, a 43-year-old Wheatley man was charged with one count of failing to comply under the act in connection with a reported gathering, police stated in a release.
Ten charges have been laid against members of Old Colony Mennonite churches in Chatham-Kent by police or municipal bylaw enforcement officers for illegal gatherings. Most are related to the Wheatley church, with one charge at the Dresden church and one at the Charing Cross church.
