June 16, 2021 •  (TNS) Six city-owned properties across Charlotte, N.C., may be transformed into affordable housing, the latest effort to create more homes in a city where rising land costs make that difficult. A separate city-owned property might forge part of a mixed-use development, and two more properties are under consideration for affordable housing, Assistant City Manager Brent Cagle told City Council on Monday.

Hundreds of people are still without power after a car crashed into a power pole in south Charlotte early Monday morning.  According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police, the crash happened around 3:30 a.m. on Old Pineville Road at Silverleaf Road, which is just south of Archdale Drive.  Duke Energy crews were called to the scene and are working to repair the pole and power lines that were damaged in the wreck. More than 2,000 customers lost power initially due to the wreck but that number is down to about 800 as of 6:15 a.m.

(WBTV) - More than 2,800 homes lost power Monday morning when a vehicle crashed into a power pole in south Charlotte. The crash happened just before 4:30 a.m. on Old Pineville Road at Silverleaf Road, blocking the area. Duke Energy reports more than 2,800 homes lost power in the areas surrounding Old Pineville Road. By 8:30 a.m., around 700 homes were still without power. Crews initially expected to have power fully restored by 7:30 a.m. The time was later moved to 4 p.m.

Two Men Killed, Another Injured After South Charlotte Shooting

WCCB Charlotte s CW March 15, 2021 CHARLOTTE, N.C. Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are investigating after two people were killed and another injured in a south Charlotte shooting early Monday morning. Officers responded to Kings Ridge Drive, off of Old Pineville Road, around 12:15 a.m. after an assault with a deadly weapon call. Upon arrival, officers located a man with a gunshot wound. The victim, identified as 22-year-old Isaiah Jeremiah Doctor-Muhammad, was pronounced dead at the scene. A second victim, identified as 27-year-old Lee’Vantay Rankin, was also located and transported to the hospital by Medic with life-threatening injuries. He later died from his injuries.
