Alex Campbell Jr. congratulates jockey Luis Saez after winning the Gallorette Stakes with Mean Mary
After nearly a year of his trips to the racetracks becoming few and far between, Alex Campbell Jr. wasn t going to let anything stop him from attending Preakness day at Pimlico. The nonagenarian had fallen at his home in Florida the night before, however, and was in the hospital past two o clock in the morning with a head injury.
Doctors used staples to close the wound and cleared Campbell to fly to Baltimore, where the long-time Thoroughbred enthusiast was delighted to watch his homebred filly Mean Mary win the Grade 3 Gallorette Stakes by a half-length.

Was it Bigfoot or a sasquatch or maybe even Keanu Reeves? Sadly, no. If it had been any of those, I wouldn’t be here. I would be on E! TV, showing off my cellphone video and sharing all the juicy details about my epic encounter.
The beast was, in fact, one of our Jersey steers. His presence on the sidewalk was every bit as shocking as if he had been a mythical forest creature or someone from The Matrix.

We are still spending a lot of time at home, but by following the CDC’s guidelines, I have been able to safely get away from it all for a little while.
Here are some of my favorite things to do while practicing social distancing in a few states across our beautiful country.
West Virginia
Let’s start with the newest National Park and National Preserve in the U.S., New River Gorge in West Virginia. It has been a National River site since 1978, and now the 6,000 wild scenic acres are part of the National Park Service.
