Worldwide there are nearly 330 species of hummingbirds, but here in Kentucky there is only one. The ruby-throated hummingbird is the only species regularly found east of the Mississippi River.

The performers at this year’s Aug. 24 event at Humphreys Concerts by the Bay will all be making their San Diego Music Awards debuts. They include Electric Mud, Brisa Lauren, Marujah, Chickenbone Slim and The Biscuits, The Frets and Ed Kornhauser.
“I’m looking at our August event as a reopening of the local music scene, so I really wanted to book artists who haven’t performed before,” Hellman told the Union-Tribune Tuesday.

“That doesn’t mean I didn’t make calls to Jason Mraz and Switchfoot. But they both hope to be out touring again in August, so it works out even better making this a live and local event. This will be the first get-together with many of our local musicians in one spot in quite a long time.”

The flakes that snowed on my spring parade last week notwithstanding, my spirits have been moving in an upward trajectory. With hours of sunshine out-proportioning overhead gray gloom, tantalizing temperatures beginning with 6’s and 7’s continue to seduce me into wondering how soon I can put the screens back in my doors. Happy moments seem to abound, and I am loving it!
I have thoroughly enjoyed the little chalk artist and her cast of passersby featured in the newest Kohl’s commercial. Her delight at reactions to the hopscotch game she so colorfully outlined on the sidewalk is matched only by the carefree manner in which various adults hop through, each according to personality. The department store’s latest contribution to the world of advertising has me thinking hopeful thoughts about non-pandemic days that are becoming a little easier to imagine.
