Emma, a graduate of Trinity College Dublin, had been preparing to celebrate New Year’s Eve with loved ones at a private residence on the grounds of the luxury Sandy Lane resort, Barbados.
The residence was purchased in the late 1990s by JP McManus, financier Dermot Desmond, and horse breeder John Magnier.
Emma, late of London and Blackrock Co Dublin, is survived by her husband John and their three “adored” young children Milly, Lauren, and Annie, and “deeply regretted by her heartbroken parents and parents-in-law, Peter and Paula, JP and Noreen, her grandmother Veronica, siblings Juliet, Katie and Nick“, a funeral notice read.
Emma McManus (née Ledbetter) died on Wednesday morning after falling ill during a family holiday in Barbados.
JP’s famous green and gold silks were due to race at Punchestown in Co. Kildare and Warwick in England yesterday, but all nine horses were withdrawn.
These included hurdler Darasso, who was due to run in the feature race at Punchestown.
JP also scratched his runners in Tramore, Co. Waterford, today out of respect for Emma, who was married to his eldest son John. Frank Berry, JP’s racing manager, said: ‘It’s a very sad time for all the family.
