Read / Add Comments UPDATE: A judge in Paterson will decide Wednesday whether a city police officer charged with assaulting a victim and lying about it should remain jailed or be released from custody. Spencer Finch, 44, of Mahwah has been held in the Bergen County Jail since Friday, records show. The Passaic County Prosecutor s Office charged him with aggravated assault, official misconduct and illegal weapons possession, as well as tampering with public records.  Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes said the 18-year city department veteran beat a victim with his fist and a flashlight and kneed him in the face on May 26, then filed a bogus report about it, authorities charged.

Wantage man faces manslaughter for Rt 3 crash that killed child

A Sussex County man is facing criminal charges stemming from a crash in Clifton last summer, which killed a 1-year-old girl and badly injured the child’s mother. Chad Hines, 41, of Wantage, was indicted by a Passaic County Grand Jury on first-degree aggravated manslaughter, stemming from the August crash that sent 25-year-old Jamie Yarrish and her young daughter to the hospital. The toddler, Jaelynn, died of her injuries several days later, according to the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office and a GoFundMe campaign that was setup for Yarrish. Hines also is faced with second-degree death by auto, third-degree strict liability vehicular homicide and third-degree assault by auto.

Wantage NJ man indicted for Route 3 Clifton crash that killed child

NorthJersey.com Chad Hines, 41, of Wantage, is accused of aggravated manslaughter, death by auto, vehicular homicide and assault by auto, the Passaic County Prosecutor s Office said. Hines allegedly caused the wreck that involved a Honda Civic carrying a female driver and the young girl in August 2020, prosecutors said at the time he was charged. Both victims were rushed to St. Joseph s Medical Center but the girl succumbed to her injuries four days later, prosecutors said.
