The 82-year-old mother of a Paterson firefighter who died in the line of duty 22 years ago was struck and killed by a sedan on a city street, authorities said.
Mary Bitner was taken to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center after being struck near the corner of Memorial Drive and Broadway around 3 p.m. Tuesday, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Paterson Police Chief Ibrahim Baycora said in a joint release.
A 21-year-old city resident whose 2012 Toyota Corolla hit her remained at the scene, they said.
Called a fixture in the city by Paterson firefighters, Bitner was pronounced dead 2½ hours later.
2 men killed in head-on crash on N.J. highway

Two men were killed in a head-on collision on a Passaic County highway early Monday evening, authorities said.
At 6:12 p.m. Monday, Wayne Police arrived on Hamburg Turnpike, near the intersection of Armstrong Avenue in Wayne, to find two cars that had collided head-on, said Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes said in a statement.
A Cadillac and a Lexus had crashed into each other, the statement said. The driver of the Cadillac was identified as Jason Montecalvo, 45, of Colts Neck, and the driver of the Lexus was identified as David Pohl, 58, of Haledon, according to the statement. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene.

Several shots were fired outside a Mahar Avenue home near Fleischer Place in the Botany Village neighborhood shortly before 10:30 p.m. Monday, police reported.
A small-caliber bullet struck the 34-year-old victim, who was conscious when placed into an ambulance, responders said.

18-year-old man charged in deadly shooting after dispute on N.J. street, prosecutor says

An 18-year-old man was arrested in the slaying of another man, who was gunned down after a dispute last week in Paterson, authorities said.
D’Andre Ruff, a city resident, was charged with murder and weapons offenses, according to Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes.
Ruff and another unidentified man were involved in a “verbal dispute” with 33-year-old Michael Richardson Wednesday afternoon, a short time before the pair allegedly opened fire at him near Broadway and Summer Street in Paterson, the prosecutor and police said in a joint statement.
N.J. man killed in Paterson motorcycle crash

A 29-year-old Passaic County man was killed in a motorcycle crash in Paterson on Sunday afternoon, authorities said.
Jonathan Medina, of Paterson, was killed Sunday afternoon when the Honda motorcycle he was driving collided with a Dodge hatchback in the city, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes said in a statement. It was not clear if any summons had been issued or were forthcoming.
At 3:22 p.m. Sunday, Paterson Police responded to a crash at the intersection of East 7th Avenue and Wood Street, where they found a crash between Medina’s motorcycle and the hatchback, the statement aid. Medina was taken to Saint Joseph’s University Medical Center and pronounced dead less than an hour later, the statement said.
