An 81-year-old Clifton resident was struck and killed Sunday morning a few doors down from his home.
Marinus Lalumia, of Van Orden Place, was pronounced at the scene after a 2017 Honda HR-V driven by a 21-year-old Paterson man struck him as he crossed Hazel Street across from the Daughters of Miriam Center shortly before 8:30 a.m. Sunday, authorities said.
No charges were immediately filed, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Clifton Police Chief Thomas Rinaldi said in a brief release.
They noted, however, that an investigation was continuing.

GOTCHA! Two Paterson men were charged with murder and weapons offenses following the shooting death of a 28-year-old city man on a local street.
Paterson police captured Jeremaih Rosado, 18, at a tire shop at East 22nd Street and Park Avenue shortly before 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Paterson Police Chief Ibrahim Baycora said in a joint announcement.
A second suspect, Imeir I. Tucker, 24, had surrendered two days earlier, they noted.
Both remained held in the Passaic County Jail pending first appearances in Central Judicial Processing Court in Paterson, where prosecutors will ask a judge to keep them detained until trial.

A Pennsylvania driver was critically injured when her compact car struck a tree in West Milford during the Independence Day weekend, authorities confirmed Tuesday.
The 32-year-old Bethel, PA resident was driving a 2006 Toyota Scion xB that crashed outside the Secluded Acres Horse Boarding farm on Union Valley Road shortly after 6 p.m., they said.
Both she and a 34-year-old male passenger from Lake Hopatcong were taken to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in Paterson, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and West Milford Police Chief James DeVore said.
The driver remained there in critical condition, they said, adding that her passenger was released after being treated.

UPDATE: A drunk driver from Yonkers was doing 106 miles an hour when he drove his Jeep into oncoming traffic and crashed head-on into a sedan in Passaic County, authorities said.
Derrick Valerio, 33, was headed in the wrong direction on Greenwood Lake Turnpike when his 2021 Grand Cherokee slammed into a 2003 Infiniti I35 in a 45-mile-per-hour zone near Stonetown Road in Ringwood on Monday, they said.
