Bahrain s High Criminal Court jailed 18 men yesterday for being part of an alleged Iranian-supported terrorist cell.
According to
Akhbar Al-Khaleej, the convicts, all Bahraini citizens were sentenced between five years and life imprisonment having been charged with seeking to carry out terrorist operations in Bahrain on behalf of Iran s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). They were also convicted of receiving training abroad and possessing explosives since 2017.
Eight of the defendants, aged between 17 and 37, were handed life sentences, two received 15-year terms and a further two were given ten years in jail. Five men were jailed for five years and one was jailed for seven years.

A court in Bahrain has sentenced eight anti-regime protesters to life imprisonment and handed down prison sentences to several others as the ruling Al Khalifah regime continues its clampdown on political opponents and pro-democracy activists in the Persian Gulf kingdom.
On Sunday, Bahrain s High Criminal Court found eight defendants guilty of forming an anti-regime cell, alleging that they were affiliated to Iran s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC).
Iran has repeatedly denied supporting any bid to overthrow the Bahraini government.
Dubai: A public servant in Bahrain has been given a ten-year jail term after being found guilty of embezzling public funds, Bahrain’s High Criminal Court announced yesterday.
The court also slapped the employee with a fine of $1,410,220 and ordered him to return the misappropriated amount - equivalent to the fined amount.
The ruling brings the total amount payable to $2,820,444, said the Head of the Financial Crimes and Money Laundering Prosecution.
According to court files, the accused passed invoices for $1,410,222 in return for supplies and services offered by the state-owned company. However, all the payments, the Public Prosecution found, went to two companies owned by the suspect directly and indirectly.
