As a key member of the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (the Quad), the four-country “Asian NATO,” along with the United States, Australia and Japan, India could play a role in developing a more multilateral regional security architecture in the Gulf. The Gulf states, in keeping with their Indo-Pacific strategy of countering China across a swath of maritime Asia, are unlikely to take sides between India and Pakistan but are keen to ensure that they maintain close ties with both.
