Pakistan to welcome Russian investment for Steel Mill’s revival: FM April 6, 2021 ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Tuesday said Pakistan would welcome if Russia made an investment for the revival of Pakistan Steels Mills (PSM) or other projects. The PSM was set up with the technical and financial help of Russia and now its role in the revival of the entity could open up several opportunities to strengthen bilateral cooperation, Qureshi said in a video statement regarding the visit of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. The PSM was closed in 2015 due to heavy financial losses. The foreign minister said the visit of a Russian foreign minister to Pakistan after nine years reflected a “new and positive dimension” of bilateral relations.

Azhar, who also holds the portfolio of Minister of Industries and Production, spoke at length about the reasons behind the decision to import from India, inflation, a reduction in fuel prices, and the launch of Eurobonds among other issues.

Conceding controlling rising inflationary pressures as a major challenge for the incumbent regime, Hammad Azhar said that the federal and provincial governments would coordinate and intervene in order to bring down prices in the country. The minister said that the prices of sugar would come down by 15 to 20 percent as the sweetener was 20 percent cheaper in neighbouring India.
