AGP informs IHC PTA, stakeholders to be consulted on Unlawful Online Content Rules
ISLAMABAD:
The federal government has agreed to review its new social media policy Removal and Blocking of Unlawful Online Content (Procedure, Oversight and Safeguards) Rules 2020 introduced in November last year amid protest by various stakeholders.
Attorney General for Pakistan (AGP) Khalid Javed Khan on Monday told an Islamabad High Court (IHC) bench that the government will revisit the rules in consultation with the stakeholders as well as the petitioners, who challenged the rules.
IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah noted that Article-19 (Freedom of Speech) and Article-19A (Right to Information) are related to human rights.
In response to SC, Balochistan backs holding Senate elections through open-ballot

After Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa backed the federal government s call for holding the Senate elections through open-ballot, Balochistan has also followed suit.
The Balochistan government supported the call in its written response to the Supreme Court in the presidential reference case.
A five-member larger bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Gulzar Ahmed and comprising Justice Mushir Alam, Justice Umar Ata Bandial, Justice Yahyah Afridi, and Justice Ijazul Ahsan heard the reference.
The presidential reference was submitted by the Attorney General of Pakistan Khalid Javed Khan after obtaining President Dr Arif Alvi s approval under Article 186 of the Constitution last week.
