ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) has expressed concern over remarks made by Federal Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry that some journalists staged attacks on themselves to strengthen their case for seeking political asylum abroad.
The minister had said in a television programme recently that “condemnation of attacks on journalists (by journalists or journalists’ organisations) is an international agenda”.
In a statement, PFUJ president Shahzada Zulfikar and secretary general Nasir Zaidi took exception to “the irresponsible” statement of Fawad Chaudhry, saying that the minister’s comments were apparently aimed at diverting the attention of national and global organisations that monitored press freedom and human right

PFUJ takes exception to info minister statement

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) has shown serious concern over the comments of Federal Information and Broadcasting Minister Fawad Chaudhry claiming that some journalists stage attacks for seeking political asylum abroad.
Appearing on a television show the information minister had also said that “condemnation of attack on journalists (by journalists or journalists’ organisations) is an international agenda”.
The PFUJ took strong exception to, what it termed, “an irresponsible” statement by a federal minister.
In a a joint statement issued on Wednesday, PFUJ President Shahzada Zulfikar and Secretary General Nasir Zaidi expressed serious concern over such a statement and said the minister’s comments are apparently aimed at diverting attention of national and global organisations that monitor press freedom and human rights situation in Pakistan.
