Photo by Tanveer Shahzad ISLAMABAD: Employees of the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) along with a large number of healthcare workers from across the country on Thursday removed all hurdles and reached D-Chowk and held a sit-in there. Traffic remained blocked in the area for around three hours. Later, the protesters announced that they will hold a sit-in in front of Parliament House if the presidential ordinance was not withdrawn by Jan 5. The Medical Teaching Institution (MTI) Ordinance was promulgated by President Dr Arif Alvi last month under which the hospital will be run through a board of governors (BoG). The BoG members have been appointed and notified by the Ministry of National Health Services (NHS) on the recommendation of a search and nomination council.

RAWALPINDI: Four people died of Covid-19 and 30 tested positive on Monday as 231 patients were discharged from hospitals after recovering. Dr Javed Akhtar Kiani, 57, a resident of Islampura Gujar Khan, was brought to Rawalpindi Institute of Urology (RIU) on Dec 25 where he died on Sunday night. Fida Hussain, 66, a resident of Choha Road, Kallar Syedan, was under treatment at RIU since Dec 21 but breathed his last on Monday. Mastaj Begum, 64, from Iqbal Town, Farooq-i-Azam Road, was being treated at Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH) since Dec 21 but could not survive and died on Monday. Walayat Jan, 75, a resident of Quaid-i-Azam Colony, Dhamial, died at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) late Sunday night. The district has 769 active patients with 108 in hospitals and 661 home isolated. A total of nine patients are on ventilators while 50 on oxygen.

PHOTO: ONLINE ISLAMABAD: The medical and non-medical staff of the largest tertiary care hospital in the federal capital continued on Tuesday their protest against the imposition of the medical teaching institute system. As part of the protest, doctors, paramedics, nurses and other supporting staff at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) boycotted their duties in the outpatient department (OPD), various wards and administrative sections of the hospital to express their concerns over the hospital administration’s callous attitude towards their demands.
