Pledge to resolve issues of tobacco growers National March 13, 2021 MARDAN: Commissioner Mardan Muntazer Khan said on Friday the government was taking practical steps to resolve the issues of tobacco growers. He was presiding over a meeting on the issues of the tobacco growers. Tobacco Board, Labour Department officials, representatives of Pakistan Tobacco Company, Khyber Tobacco Company, Universal Tobacco Company, representative of farmers attended the meeting. The commissioner asked the owners of tobacco companies to arrange regular trainings for the awareness of the tobacco growers. He directed the Universal Tobacco Company to pay the arrears of the tobacco growers by March 31.

With some positive news flow, the market traded in a wide range and moved between intra-day high and low of 595 and 988 points respectively. Initially, there was some optimism, which was attributed to the success of Prime Minister Imran Khan in securing the vote of confidence from the National Assembly on Saturday. However, macroeconomic concerns impacted the investment climate negatively and sent investors to the exit door, who dumped stocks to seek shelter.

During the day, the Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) for the week ended March 4, 2021 was released, which recorded an increase of 15% year-on-year, generating investor interest in bank stocks. Meanwhile, the international crude oil prices jumped more than 2%, hitting their highest in nearly 14 months, which also lent support to optimism in the stock market.
