The Pakistan Poultry Association (PPA) has declared the Ranikhet disease as a major reason for the surging price of chicken meat.
PPA (North Region) Chairperson Raja Atiqur Rehman Abbasi said that the rate of poultry had been steadily rising for some time now. “There is no intervention by the government or association to help curb the disease. In the current situation, a large number of chickens fall prey to the disease of Ranikhet on poultry farms.”

In a press briefing, PPA said that the poultry sector has been facing losses for the last year due to Covid-19. Poultry products and chicken are determined on a demand and supply basis by the government/market committees. No individual or association can fix its rate.
A disease named New Castle Virus(NDV) is widely spread over at poultry farms these days and is causing more than 50% mortality of broilers. That’s why the supply chain of broiler is disturbed, and prices went up due to a shortage of broiler chicken/Eggs.

ISLAMABAD: With prices of chicken meat surging to a new high, the Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) is considering the launch of an investigation against the poultry sector.
The investigation will examine whether a collusion between poultry companies and the Pakistan Poultry Association (PPA) led to the unusual rise in prices.
Informed sources told
Dawn that senior officials of the Competition Commission held consultations online after receiving a large number of complaints about the consistent rise in prices of chicken and eggs. They took a decision, in principle, to initiate a probe against the poultry sector.
