Extortionist held by Rangers - Newspaper

KARACHI: The Pakistan Rangers Sindh on Friday claimed to have arrested a suspect over charges of extortion. The paramilitary force along with police conducted an intelligence-based action in Surjani Town and detained the suspect, Shahbaz Khan, said the Rangers spokesperson. He had demanded Rs500,000 in protection money from a trader of Taiser Town on January 9 and sent a chit containing a bullet to the trader and threatened him with kidnapping his son in case of non-payment. The trader called the suspect at a place for giving him the money and in the meantime, he also informed the Rangers helpline. The paramilitary force utilising modern technology tools detained the suspect from the place where he had gone to collect the cash. He was handed over to the police for further legal action.

Federal ministers, PTI MPAs pressurised Sindh police to arrest Capt Safdar: report

Top Story December 26, 2020 KARACHI: A ministerial committee probing the arrest of Capt (R) Mohammad Safdar Awan has found that the Sindh Police was pressurized by the federal government and PTI MPAs to take action against the PML-N leader. On October 22, the Sindh government had established the ministerial committee to investigate the arrest of PML-N vice-president Maraym Nawaz’s husband after the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) jalsa in Karachi and the alleged mishandling of the “highest level of police”. The matter was also probed by the armed forces on the directives of Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa. After the inquiry, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) announced removal of some officers of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and Pakistan Rangers Sindh from their current assignments for acting “overzealously”.

New Sindh Rangers DG assumes charge Karachi December 25, 2020 Major General Iftikhar Hassan Chaudhary assumed on Thursday the charge of the Pakistan Rangers Sindh director general (DG). According to the Sindh Rangers spokesperson, a ceremony was held at the Rangers headquarters in Karachi to welcome the new DG, in which Major General Omar Ahmad Bukhari handed over the command of the Sindh Rangers to Major Gen Chaudhry. Later in the day, Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mushtaq Mahar and other senior police officials hosted a reception at the Central Police Office Karachi to bid farewell to Major Gen Bukhari. The IGP welcomed the guests attending the reception and talked about the professionalism of the paramilitary force. He lauded work done by the former Rangers DG for maintaining law and order in the megacity during his tenure.
