The UAE s support came during the visit of Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi to the Gulf nation. Qureshi thanked UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, stating that UAE s help reflected the warm and brotherly ties between the two countries . We greatly appreciate the UAE s continued support and cooperation, maintained the Pakistan foreign office. Qureshi has also raised the issue of visa restrictions for Pakistanis in his meeting with the Emirati Minister for Tolerance and Coexistence, Sheikh Nahyan Mubarak Al Nahyan, and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Bin Ali Al Sayegh.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has extended the term of USD 2 billion interest-free loan to Pakistan made in January 2019, as Islamabad s economy continues to struggle with sluggish growth amid the coronavirus pandemic. Pakistan foreign office made the announcement on Tuesday a day after a meeting between Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi and his UAE counterpart Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Dawn reported. Qureshi and his UAE counterpart held detailed discussions on Monday evening after the delegation-level talks during the foreign minister s three-day visit to the Gulf state. The loan was made in 2019 to help Pakistan avert a potential balance of payments crisis.

Speaking on the occasion, Qureshis said: “Pakistan Pavilion at the Exp 2020 Dubai site is the testimony of strong relations between UAE and Pakistan. I believe that the Pakistan Pavilion will further help strengthen bilateral and trade relations between the two countries. Pakistan Foreign Minister arrived in the UAE on Saturday on a three-day official visit. He met the Pakistani businessmen on Saturday and is expected to hold meetings with the senior UAE officials on Sunday and Monday. Pavilion cost Gulf News had reported earlier that the Pakistani pavilion was being built at the cost of $28.72 million. The initial cost was estimated to be around $16 million, but it jumped due to some addition to its design to create the ‘wow’ factor.
